Wood to deliver blockbuster package for Docklands

Independent Lord Mayoral Candidate and small business owner Arron Wood will deliver a blockbuster community infrastructure package to revitalise Docklands.

A $10 million fund will be established to deliver community infrastructure projects that tell the story of Docklands as an international movie-making destination.

Docklands has become the unassuming home for some of the world’s biggest movie and television productions in recent years including Predestination, La Brea, Where the Wild Things Are and many more.

The $10 million fund would be able to be used to upgrade public spaces with interactive displays, public art and signage.

All proposals for the community infrastructure package would have input from a committee of Docklands residents and businesses before being decided.

Mr Wood said Docklands was one of the world’s great hubs for screen industries but it hadn’t told its story to Melburnians.

“This package could deliver a new kids park with character from Where the Wild Things are or it could provide a boulevard of blockbusters with info and fun facts for even the most hardened movie buffs,” Mr Wood said.

“We want to really highlight and celebrate that Docklands is a critical part of the success of so many blockbuster movies and TV productions.

“This will deliver a huge boost to the image of Docklands and also drive more visitors to the area to support local businesses.”

Mr Wood said a committee of residents and local business people to provide feedback on any proposals would be selected through an expression of interest process.

“Town Hall needs to get back to listening to the community and that’s why it’s critical that this package includes a committee for locals to provide feedback on any potential project,” Mr Wood said.

“As a proud independent candidate, I want to give a greater voice back to Docklands residents and businesses on the issues that matter for to them.”
